THE GREAT FISH...

All lyrics composed, edited, and arranged by

Aaron John Gregory; respectfully mined from the original

literary source material, written by Peter Benchley (1974),

and quoted from the film adaption and screenplay written

by Benchley and Carl Gottlieb (1975), except for

“Show Me The Way To Go Home” by Irving King (1925).

The Great Fish

The great fish moved silently through the night waters

The move was open just enough to permit a rush

of water of it's gills

The eyes were sightless in the black

The fish sensed a change

in the sea's rythm, nerves detected vibrations

and signaled the brain

The fish turned towards shore

The fish recongized prey

Pain and panic struck together

The women threw her head back and screamed

cries of guttural terror

The fish swallowed her limbs without even chewing

The great conical head struck her like a locomotive

The fish turned to feed again

The corpse fell apart

Flesh, Bone, and Rubber

He began to kick and paddle towards shore

Sharp and jerky impulses

They were signals faint but true

And the fish locked in on them

It rose nearly vertical

Saw the commotion on the surface

Felt compelled to attack

Jaws smashed together

Engulfing head, arms, and shoulders

and most of the raft

Grinding the mass of flesh, bone, and rubber

Did you see that?

Town Meeting

You all know me, know how I earn a living

I'll catch this bird for you

It ain't going to be easy

This shark will swallow you whole!

WHOLE!

WHOLE!

A little shaking, tenderizing, and down you go

Well I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, Chief

I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him and kill him for ten

You got to make up your mind

Stay alive and ante up

Cause this shark will, swallow you whole

WHOLE!

WHOLE!

A little shaking, tenderizing, and down you go

I don't want no volunteers

I don't need no mates

Too many captains on this island

Ten thousand bucks for me by myself

For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing

"Thank you very much, Mr. Quint. We'll uh, take it under advisement"

Swim Charlie, Swim

(instrumental)

Jack the Ripper

"Victim identified as Christine Watkins, female caucasian."

"Yeah, here's the way we have it."

"Probable boating accident. The height and weight of the victim can only be estimated from the partial remains. The torso has been severed at mid-thorax. There are no major organs remaining. The right arm has been severed at the elbow, with massive tissue loss in the upper musculature. Partially dinuted bone remaining.

"This was no boat accident. Did you notify the coast guard about this?"

"No. It's only local jurisdiction."

"The left arm, head, shoulders, sternum, and portions of the rib cage are still intact. So this is what happens. It indicates the non-frenzied feeding of a large squalus, possibly Ongimanus or Isurus glaucus. Now, the enormous amount of tissue loss prevents any detailed analysis, however the attacking squalus must  be considerably larger and any normal squalus found in this waters."

"Didn't you get on a boat and check out these waters?"

"No."

"Now this is not a boat accident. And it wasn't any propellor. And it wasn't any coral reef. And it wasn't Jack the Ripper."

"It was a shark."

Eating Machine in the Pond

What we have here is a perfect engine, an eating machine

It's really a miracle of evolution

All this machine does is swim and eat and make little sharks

Haul in the sheet

It's going in the pond

Make it fast

In the estuary

Haul in the sheet

It's going in the pond

Make it fast

Somebody do something!

Haul in the sheet

It's going in the pond!

Make it fast

Somebody do something!

What we have here is a perfect engine, an eating machine

It's really a miracle of evolution

All this machine does is swim and eat and make little sharks

Does anybody have a gun?

Somebody get a gun, and shoot it

Shoot it!

Anybody have a gun?

Somebody get a gun, and shoot it

Shoot it!

City Hands

I'm not talking about pleasure boating or day sailing

I'm talking about working for a living

I'm talking about sharking

Just tie me a sheepshank

And give me your hands

When you've got a five thousand dollar net

with two thousand dollars worth of fish in it

and along comes Mr. Whitey

SHEEP SHANK

SHEEP SHANK...

By the time he's done with it

looks like a kiddy's scissor class has cut it up like a paper doll

You've got city hands, you've been counting money all your life

SHEEP SHANK

SHEEP SHANK...

Yeah it's your charter, but it's my vessel

You're on board my vessel

Well I'm mate, master, pilot and I'm captain

We'll bring him for ballast, Chief

The Orca

Here lies the body of Mary Lee

Died at the age of 103

For fifteen years she kept her virginity

Not a bad record for this vicinity

Front, bow, back, stern

You best get it right, squirt

or I'll throw your ass

out the little round window on the side

One time I caught

a sixteen footer of montauk

Had to stick two barrels in him

Two to wear him down, and bring him up

When he runs...

When he runs you drop that rope

or you'll lose your hands

I've seen fingers pulled out the knuckles

The whole sea is full of them

You go in the cage

Cage goes in the water

You go in the water

Shark in the water

Our shark

Farewell and adieu to you fare Spanish ladies

Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain

For we've recieved orders for to sail back to Boston

and so nevermore may we see you again

The Indianapolis

Eleven hundered men

went into the water

Three hundred and

sixteen men came out

The sharks took the rest

June the 29th, 1945

Despite all the pounding

and the hollering

They all come in

and rip you to pieces

June the 29th, 1945

(Quint's monologue... you know where to find that. I can't make it that easy.)

Show Me the Way to Go Home

Show me the way to go home

I'm tired and I want to go to bed

I had a little drink about an hour ago

and it got right to my head

Wherever I may roam

by land or sea or foam

You will always find me singing this song

Show me the way to go home

He Ate the Light

He ate the light

He ate the light

Why don't we start leading

the shark to shore

Instead of him

leading us to sea

Run him down

Run him down!

If we can

get close enough

I've got things on board

that can kill it

"Smile you son of a..."
